PERSOL Group's Journey
PERSOL Group was launched in 1973 as "Tempstaff" (now PERSOL TEMPSTAFF) by founder Yoshiko Shinohara in the inner-city Tokyo suburb of Roppongi in the hope of advancing the position in society of women who despite having the ability and desire to work, lacked opportunities.
From then on, with "Creating employment, individual growth, contributing to society" as its mantra, the business has grown through M&As and business integrations. A large number of like-minded companies have joined the Group and together with the temporary labor business roots, the Group operates: the "doda" branded placement business, the "an" and "LINE Baito" branded for-hire advertising business, planning/R&D and IT outsourcing businesses etc.
PERSOL Group has grown into an integrated HR services group of companies that currently consists of over 70 companies operating at approximately 600 sites within domestic Japan & overseas.
PERSOL Group up to now
While working as a secretary in Australia, Ms. Shinohara was deeply impressed when she saw temporary staff (dispatch staff) working by utilizing specialist skills as part of a life-style choice. Shinohara then established Tempstaff in 1973 aiming to "create a woman-friendly working environment". Shinohara rented a 25m2 room in Roppongi, Tokyo that doubled as her office and apartment; starting with just a phone and a desk. Shinohara started by going around and about on cold-calls clasping home-made sales leaflets in one hand, while also trying to secure financing. One year after launch sales were JPY 30 million. And at the 1 year mark the company ended up in the black: but only just.

PERSOL From Here On
In 2016, a new brand ("PERSOL") was launched that aims to combine continuous growth in each business while highlighting the integrated strengths of the Group.
In 2017, the names of core companies within PERSOL Group were changed to reflect the new brand by using "PERSOL" as a prefix.
As one integrated Group, PERSOL aims to offer optimal and total support to corporations via a wide variety of ways to utilize and deploy talent. Also, for working people, PERSOL aims to provide flexible ways to work that suit the individual's stage in life. PERSOL endeavors to support the "work" of each and every individual for the entire duration of their careers.
The hope is to contribute to realizing a society where even more individuals experience the joy that comes from work through PERSOL Group initiatives: "Realizing diverse ways of working" and "Minimizing mis-matches".
Also, one strategy in the Medium-Term Management Plan is "Enhanced presence in the Asia-Pacific region" which has been addressed as follows. In 2010 a strategic business alliance agreement was signed with Kelly Services Inc. (a major U.S. HR services company) and in 2012 a joint venture was launched in North Asia. This has enabled development of the joint venture throughout the entire Asia-Pacific region since 2016, and business operation expansion is ongoing.
In addition, in 2017 shares of Programmed Maintenance Services Limited (a company engaged in HR services and maintenance businesses primarily in Australia) were acquired and Programmed has become a subsidiary.
Additional business development initiatives are afoot that aim to realize the PERSOL Group Vision not just in domestic Japan but are also aimed to enhance PERSOL's presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
